This year Camber will be organising a club trip to the Epsom Derby which takes place on Saturday June 1st. This is one of the great days in the British sporting calendar, with 125,000+ people there, and almost certainly the best freebie as we can go in the centre of the course (known the “The Hill”) for absolutely nothing! Everyone should experience it at least once in their lives, and if you’ve been before you’ll probably be keen to go again.

We’ll aim for the train which arrives at Tattenham Corner station at 12:41, departing London Bridge at 11:57 or East Croydon at 12:14 (there’s also one from Honor Oak Park). Bring along some picnicking equipment and we’ll find a good spot before racing starts around 2pm. The afternoon can then be spent eating, drinking and – if the fancy takes you – betting (The Hill has bookmakers, Tote kiosks etc). We’ll return sometime after the last race, probably arriving back at around 7pm (in time for continuing the festivities at Jo’s party for anyone who is attending that). Of course you can arrive later, leave earlier, or generally join in as and when you wish. Partners, friends, kids etc all welcome – it’s set up for a family day out so you’ll also find fun fairs etc. The Hill is very informal so no dress code or anything like that – wear a top hat if you want but most people will be in shorts and a t-shirt if the weather is nice.

Anyone interested should contact Chris (chris@www.tennis-at-camber.org) to make sure they are in the loop for arrangements. Don’t miss it!

And remember, don’t forget to RSVP to Jo if you’re going to her party at Marlborough that evening – jo-penny@supanet.com – strict dress code – SUNGLASSES!
